== Our mission == Wikifacta’s mission is to make verified encyclopedic information freely accessible to readers, researchers, organizations, businesses, students, journalists, and digital information systems. The project works toward this mission by publishing articles that are understandable without requiring highly specialized knowledge. Technical language may be used when it is necessary, but important terms should be explained in straightforward English. An article should help the reader learn about its subject rather than force the reader to search elsewhere for the meaning of every sentence. Wikifacta also seeks to improve the organization of factual information on the web. Its pages may contain structured data that describes the principal subject of an article and the relationships between relevant entities. This can help compatible technologies understand whether a page is about a person, organization, place, event, book, film, product, or another identifiable subject. The project’s broader goals are to: * publish useful and understandable encyclopedic articles; * present factual claims with appropriate supporting references; * make reliable information easier to find; * explain complicated subjects in simple language; * distinguish facts from opinions, allegations, advertising, and speculation; * correct significant factual errors when convincing evidence becomes available; * encourage responsible digital publishing; * support stronger semantic relationships between people, organizations, places, events, and creative works; * preserve useful information about notable subjects that may be poorly documented elsewhere; and * develop a trusted collection of structured, human-readable knowledge.
